Dr. Ivan Edwards is a Ugandan born physician, USAF Reserve Flight Surgeon (Lt Col), ordained minister, and award winning author poet. He is the author of Resonance of the Soul – Flowers and Harmonics, a collection that received the Literary Titan Gold Book Award for its emotional clarity and poetic depth. His poetry has appeared on PoetrySoup and in anthologies published by Poets Choice, establishing his voice within the global poetry community.

Born in Kampala, Uganda, Dr. Edwards carries a heritage that reflects both European settlers who loved and made Uganda their home, and Ugandan lineage traced to his ancestral roots in Mityana, Mamba clan. He immigrated to the United States in 1988 to pursue medicine, eventually becoming a USAF Flight Surgeon. A poet at heart, he began writing at an early age, channeling intellect and passion into verse.

Beyond poetry, Dr. Edwards has written opinion articles and op eds for platforms such as Watchdog Uganda, Doximity, and The Dallas Morning News. He also engages audiences of over 43,000 subscribers on YouTube, where he shares readings, reflections, and thought provoking content. His work connects ideas and welcomes new perspectives that unite communities and build bridges across differences.

A board certified physiatrist, Dr. Edwards has spent over two decades specializing in rehabilitation medicine, neuro rehabilitation, and minimally invasive pain management. In uniform, he serves as a Lieutenant Colonel and Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, trained in Aerospace Medicine, and is a decorated officer with two Meritorious Service Medals. Spiritually grounded, he is an ordained minister who addresses both the emotional and spiritual dimensions of care.

His humanitarian work spans child sponsorship programs in Uganda, community resilience initiatives, and environmental advocacy. Passionately, he envisions the emergence of Ugandan poets as a dynamic creative force — voices of intellect and passion that can inspire, unite, and lead. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, Dr. Edwards continues to impact lives across multiple spheres — through healing, storytelling, and public advocacy.

“I write not to impress, but to undress the wounds we hide… so healing can begin.”
