POEM OF THE WEEK: LESSONS by Omadang Yowasi

Many times a big butt bullied him,
‎He stretched & devised ways
‎Ways to get far into the source
‎& epitome of succulent flesh.

Whenever we told him to put on
‎Or take safety precautions,
‎He just laughed at his cowards
‎Saying, you only live once.

He’s now four moons on his bed
‎& on a strict diet without a big butt,
‎HIV is etched into his hive
‎& regret writes itself on his face.

Today, every big butt that darts by
‎Makes him look the other way.
‎He still sees hope in the depth of scars
‎& teaches others the weight of pain.
